One thing that is frustrating to see is when people do not get results. I see it happening often though.
In order to get results you have to take steps that you may or may not know you need to take. It sounds silly right?
I want to share with you here what these are for the goal of losing a stone in weight (which is 14 pounds or 6.35kg)
The only way to lose that weight is to be in a calorie deficit. This means that your body needs to be burning more calories than what you are consuming. A mixture of exercise and changing your eating habits is key to this.
Nutrition
Nutrition is key. In a nutshell you want to track how many calories you are consuming along with tracking your weight and/or measurements once a week. If your weight/measurements are going down then keep it going.
For my clients I calculate how many calories and how much protein to consume to make this happen. It may need adjustments here and there. Main thing is being consistent.
Now the main reason I select this method over others, is that its a surefire way to actually know how many calories you are consuming. No other method allows this. This is personalised to my client though, as if you cannot be consistent with this it will not work.
Most of us know what we should be eating. Plenty of greens and a mixture of nutritious foods. Just not overdoing the bad stuff. Of course I go into more detail for my clients and find ways to help to stay on track.
Hydration is another key!
I am sure we all know this too. Humans are made up of mostly water and just a little bit of dehydration will prevent you from training your hardest in the gym but also affect your body from being optimal in health. Being hydrated helps to eliminate toxins from the body, regulate body temperature, keep joints lubricated, prevent infections, deliver nutrients to cells and keep organs functioning optimally.
Exercise
The cardio Trap!
Now now, cardio is great. Jumping on the crosstrainer, treadmill or bike, will help you burn more calories than sitting on your backside. This is great!
As you exercise your body burns more calories. Perfect!
The only thing is when you stop, the extra calorie burn stops too. Not only that, eventually you will most probably get bored of doing this. Not only that but it also is not the most optimal way to get results.
WHAT!?
A far better way is to actually do resistance training and I will tell you why.
Resistance training will not burn as many calories as doing cardio but if done correctly you will be burning calories 24 to 48 hours after your workout. Not only that but if combined with the right eating habits it will help you to add lean tissue. This helps to increase your metabolism so that your body is burning more calories day to day. This is a big key to also burning fat and keeping it off.
